D. Nelson Limber Memorial Observatory was founded in the summer of 1979 in the Texas Hill Country near San Antonio as a private observatory and residence. It is named in memory of a distinguished faculty member of the University of Virginia Department of Astronomy.

The 0.4 m telescope has been used for a variety of research projects, including broadband linear polarization studies of early emission line stars with a Glan prism photopolarimeter.

The Limber Observatory Clear Sky Chart gives an astronomer's forecast for local observing conditions.
